Quantum Physics

Quantum Physics NOT for Idiots or Dummies

The Mathematics of Quantum Physics

May 8th, 2010

After our recommendation of book by Dirac, we have received number of emails, saying that “it was difficult”. Well, science is not easy, anyone who states that it could be – lies. It will become easy only as you progress and dedicate some time to it.

We will try to make it a bit easier though and much more fascinating. The main statement of some readers was that “Dirac’s book contains too much maths”. True, math is an instrument used in physics, both modern and classic. Without mathematics it is impossible to explain or show how the things work.

Therefore for those of you that feel a bit daunted by the math used in Dirac’s lectures we have a good introductory (scientifically introductory – this is not a book with pictures and cartoons, but easy way of getting to know some of the modern mathematics) book by Byron and Fuller. Used by thousands of physics student across the world it is a very good introductory course.

Quantum Physics

April 26th, 2010

The purpose of this website and bookshop is to provide my visitors with all the information required to study a complex but fascinating subject of Quantum Physics.

I was doing Quantum Fields Theory for years both in the University and later in Post Graduate studies. I also did some lecturing and teaching and therefore know firsthand what people should study in order to understand and feel comfortable about science.

I strongly dislike all this modern “… for Idiots” and “…for Dummies” books if they have Quantum Physics in front of the title. Centuries ago Euclid said “There is no royal road to geometry.” And there is no such road in science. Trying to fool people that Quantum Physics is easy and fun and does not require effort to understand is unacceptable. It is NOT easy and requires serious understanding of classical physics and mathematical analysis. But once you get a grip on it then it becomes easy and interesting. I am going to recommend REAL textbooks used by generations of prominent scientists and students. If you are looking for easy “Idiot’s Guide…” with pictures and stories – look somewhere else. But if you are serious about Physics then you are the visitor I am making this website for.

You first book is below. At £1.91 it is 10 times cheaper than any “Dummies Guide” but it has 1E+100 more information. Get it, read it and see. You might understand some of it, you might understand nothing. If you don’t understand it at all – put it somewhere safe and return to it later. But you should at least try.
